IfL's impact

Impact review 2011 front coverRead about how IfL members' views influenced national policy last year in IfL's Impact Review 2011. Members lead the national policy position of IfL through the IfL advisory council, policy surveys, workshops and focus groups, which all fed in to IfL's responses to government and sector consultations. 

Between August 2010 and December 2011, IfL received 28,555 responses from members to policy surveys. IfL's Impact Review demonstrates the commitment shown by tens of thousands of IfL members and how their views on national policy made a difference.

In one example, Ofsted consulted IfL about changes to the common inspection framework. An Ofsted director met a group of IfL members to hear their views before IfL surveyed over 2,000 members. IfL used the feedback from members for its response to the Ofsted consultation and asked, among other things, for clearer and more systematic feedback from inspectors when lessons/sessions are observed.

Thanks to the engagement of members, IfL has a distinctive role in supporting teachers and voicing practitioners’ perspectives. Read more in IfL's Impact Review 2011
