Apply for QTLS or ATLS

Apply for QTLS or ATLS

There are three stages to the professional formation process that leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or AssociateTeacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status. To begin the process IfL, you will need to apply for QTLS or ATLS and make your initial payment of £100, which will give you access to your professional formation online workbook.

The cost of undertaking professional formation leading to QTLS or ATLS is £485.

You can make payment in two instalments:

  • First instalment of £100 at the point of application
  • Final instalment of £385 upon completion of the application and before sharing your completed online workbook with IfL

We have worked to keep the price down, and considering the value and recognition that QTLS brings we believe this offers good value to members.

Stages of professional formation

Stage 1 - initial application

Log in to 'My IfL' where you will find a link to professional formation. Complete the relevant information and you will also be asked to pay your first instalment of £100. This indicates to IfL that you wish to apply for professional formation and allows us prepare the appropriate resources to review and moderate your application.

Stage 2 - complete your online workbook

After you have paid your deposit, you will be able to access your online workbook in REfLECT+ within ten minutes and embark upon the application process by completing your narrative pages and adding supportive evidence. You need to make sure that you share your application with IfL by the relevant deadline for your application period (see the table below).

IfL has produced a short video to support IfL members when using the new REfLECT+.

Stage 3 - conferral of QTLS or ATLS by IfL

To complete your application you will need to ensure that you have completed the following:

  1. Completed your evidence in your online workbook
  2. Shared with your supporter
  3. Sent your completed online workbook to IfL.

When you have shared your online workbook with IfL, you will receive an email acknowledging its receipt. If you do not receive this email, please contact us as, as it may be that your workbook has not been received.

You do not have to wait until the deadline to share your online workbook which can be sent at any time. However please be aware that your application will not be reviewed until the dealine has passed.

Once received, your completed application will be reviewed and moderated. If successful, you will achieve Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status. You can print your certificate through REfLECT+ at your own convenience.

After you receive your confirmation email at the end of the process, you can read your feedback in your online workbook by logging in to REfLECT+ and clicking the "view feedback" button in the status bar.
