Stage 1 - Expressing your intention to apply for QTLS or ATLS

To begin the process of Professional Formation IfL requires you first to express to us your intention to apply for QTLS or ATLS.

You can confirm your intent to compile and send your Professional Formation proforma to IfL through the members’ area of the website. This advanced notice allows us to prepare adequate resources to review and monitor your application.

We will run the process for Professional Formation three times per year and will need to receive your expression of intent at the beginning of the period for which you are applying for QTLS or ATLS.

How can I express my intent?

You can express your intention to apply QTLS or ATLS through the ‘my pages’ area of the website. You must log-in as a member to do this. If you are having difficulties logging-in please call our membership team on 0844 815 3202 and choose option 1.

Once you have logged in successfully to ‘my pages’, click the link on the left hand side of the screen entitled ‘Professional Formation’ and then follow the on-screen prompts.

NOTE: You should also complete a ‘Declaration of Suitability’ form (PDF, 40 KB) under step 2 of this process. This is not actually part of the Professional Formation process, although it needs to be completed and sent to IfL separately. If it has not been received, then it will not be possible for you to proceed with your application for QTLS or ATLS.

Why do I need to express my intent?

IfL recognises the need to allow all members the opportunity to gain QTLS or ATLS in their chosen timeframe. To help us achieve this we are asking that all members who wish to begin the Professional Formation process let us know in advance when they require to achieve QTLS or ATLS.

By knowing how many members intend to begin the Professional Formation process we can prepare a suitable number of reviewers, moderators and other resources to offer those members the best possible support. This greatly enhances the efficiency of the process and significantly offsets the risk of over allocating our members’ money against anecdotal estimates.
