Standardised elements
These are drawn from typical sources and are common to all candidates and are determined through regulation or other requirements to fit all teaching roles
1. Approved qualifications:
To apply for QTLS, you need an initial teacher training qualification at Level 5, equivalent to the Diploma in Lifelong Learning (DTLLS)
OR
To apply for ATLS, you need an initial teacher training qualification at Level 4, equivalent to the Certificate in Lifelong Learning (CTLLS)
Certificates of one of these should be attached or scanned into REfLECT at this point.
2. Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy Skills:
Numeracy and Literacy qualifications at (or above) level 2 can be demonstrated by scanned certificates. The qualification must be on the list of approved qualifications.
If you do not have certificates, it is possible to provide equivalent evidence of Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy by referring to the Standards for Adult Literacy and Numeracy, which can be downloaded below:
National standards for adult literacy, numeracy and ICT (PDF, 166 KB).
Standards for adult numeracy (PDF, 47 KB).
Standards for adult literacy - including spoken communication (PDF, 49 KB).
These documents can also be found on the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) website.
Evidence of certificates of Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy skills (or equivalence) should be attached or scanned into REfLECT.
3. Supporting statement
When your webfolio has been completed, with all your evidence collated in REfLECT, it needs to be shared with your supporter. Select the Send to Supporter link on page 10 of your webfolio. Please note that this link will only be accessible after all checklist items have been completed.
Your supporter will automatically receive an email stating that you’ve shared an asset with them on REfLECT. He or she will then be able to access the supporters statementform via your portfolio.
NOTE: If your supporter is a member of the IfL, you need to ensure you have entered their IfL registered email address on page 2.
If they are not a member, another email containing a temporary REfLECT login will be sent.
Once the supporters statement has been completed, your account will automatically be updated and the final option to Send to IfL will be available. Applicants will also be able to check and request changes to the supporter’s statement before submitting to IfL.
You may wish to print out this guidance for supporters (PDF, 26 KB) for your supporter.
4. Declaration of Suitability
The declaration of suitability is not actually part of the evidence included in the REfLECT proforma, although it needs to be completed and sent to IfL separately. If it has not been received, then it will not be possible for you to proceed with your application for QTLS or ATLS.
