IfL members recognised in New Year honours list
The 2010 New Year honours list includes three members of the Institute for Learning (IfL), the independent professional body for teachers and trainers throughout the further education and skills sector.
Dr Richard Spencer, biology subject leader at SRC Bede Sixth Form, Billingham in the Tees Valley, has been appointed MBE for services to science communication. - Faruk Miah, programme manager at Leeds City College, has been appointed MBE for services to further education and to the community in Leeds.
Professor Ed Sallis (pictured), principal of Highlands College, Jersey, has been appointed OBE for services to further education.
Toni Fazaeli, chief executive of IfL, said, "I am especially pleased to see teachers and trainers in further education and skills, the frontline practitioners, being recognised in the New Year honours list. Our congratulations go to IfL members Richard Spencer of SRC Bede Sixth Form College and Faruk Miah of Leeds City College, who were both honoured for their contributions to learners and to further education.
"We are delighted too about the award for Ed Sallis, who has been an IfL member for nearly seven years and was recently elected to IfL’s Advisory Council. His entire career has been devoted to FE and his passion for teaching and learning; and his commitment to practitioner research as a means of developing their professional practice chimes well with the aims of IfL as the professional body for teachers and trainers.”
