New Year honours list recognises IfL members

The Institute for Learning (IfL) congratulates the following members who were recognised in the 2011 New Year honours list:

  • Ali Hadawi, principal of Southend Adult Community College, has been appointed CBE for services to vocational education in Iraq and to further education.

  • Brian Litherland, lecturer in electrical engineering at Castle College Nottingham, has been appointed MBE for services to further education.

  • Dr Paul Phillips, principal and chief executive of Weston College in Weston-super-Mare and an IfL Fellow, has been appointed OBE for services to further education and to the voluntary sector.

  • Diane Roberts, principal of Brockenhurst College in Hampshire, has been appointed CBE for services to further education.

  • Helen Sage, former programme co-ordinator at City of Bristol College, has been appointed MBE for services to further education.

  • David Waddington, former principal of Hartlepool College of Further Education and past affiliate of IfL, has been appointed OBE for services to education and training.

 

Toni Fazaeli, chief executive of IfL, said, “We are delighted to see IfL members, who through membership of their professional body show they are dedicated to excellent teaching and training, being honoured. The CBE, OBE and MBE honours are for their contributions to adult and further education, training, vocational education, specialist teaching for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and the voluntary sector. Their commitment to learners and to our sector accords well with the aims of IfL as the professional body for teachers and trainers.”
