ESOL
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Following proposed changes to funding for ESOL, BIS undertook an equality impact assessment of ESOL published in July 2011. This resulted in further changes to funding enabling colleges to fund ESOL provision for some learners.
Two IfL Patrons, Baroness Margaret Sharp and Lord Timothy Boswell, hosted a focus group for 12 IfL members who are ESOL teachers and/or experts at the House of Lords on 4 September 2011.
The group discussed the changes to the funding of ESOL and the impact this was having on those teaching ESOL and their learners.
Please read the summary of the focus group for the groups’ discussion, concerns and recommendations.
Action for ESOL who have been campaigning for support for learners to undertake ESOL training have created a website and newsletter called ESOL News written by ESOL students and their teachers.
