CPD for teaching disabled learners survey (with LSIS)
On Wednesday 14 December LSIS launched their two level 5 diplomas related to teaching disabled learners.
• The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Disabled learners)
• The Level 5 Diploma in teaching Disabled learners
In September 2011 IfL invited members to participate in a survey on behalf of LSIS to establish if the modules within these LSIS diplomas would be useful as standalone CPD units for mainstream teachers and trainers not currently specialising in teaching disabled learners. Over 2,300 IfL members took part in the survey. The report highlights the survey findings which show support for the modules as standalone CPD units.
These qualifications are not required by regulation but have been made available to meet professional development needs of teachers working predominately with disabled learners.
The qualifications are modelled on the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). They use a modular approach. For these new qualifications three modules have been designed;
• Understanding theories and frameworks for teaching disabled learners
• Inclusive teaching and learning for disabled learners
• Action learning for teaching in a specialist area of disability
CPD resources across a range of teaching and learning topics, including working with disabled learners are available under CPD and Careers.
