National Apprenticeships Week
Get with Apprenticeships
National Apprenticeships Week 2012 is running 6 – 10 February. It's a celebration of the value of apprenticeships and the opportunities provided through vocational qualifications to young and adult learners, the economy and wider society.
Highly skilled teachers and trainers are essential to the success of apprenticeships. As dual professionals - experts in teaching and training as well as their subject specialim, IfL members provide valuable teaching and learning across a range of vocational skills.
As part of WordSkills London 2011, IfL spoke to teachers and trainers supporting Team UK. One of them, Kevin Calpin, explained how entering young people for competition impacts on the other students as well as his own teaching. Read on for more interviews with the trainers working with UK competitors.
WorldSkills UK
As a proud supporter of WorldSkills London 2011, we are delighted to see the legacy continued through WorldSkills UK with a series of national competitions to raise participation, esteem and standards in apprenticeships by providing apprentices with the opportunity to build confidence and knowledge of their skill helping them to progress the workplace.
WorldSkills UK competitions: Open for entries
IfL members can enter your apprentice and see if they have what it takes to be named the best of the best in their skill.
Run in over 50 skills, WorldSkills UK national competitions are designed to raise participation, esteem and standards in vocational education and apprenticeships.
The competitors from this year’s WorldSkills UK national competitions will be honoured at the Skills Show which will take place later this year. The Skills Show, part of the legacy of WorldSkills London 2011, will feature skills competitions, careers advice and job opportunities.
The closing date is 15 March 2012.

WorldSkills London 2011
IfL is one of many organisations from across the further education and skills sector who were represented at WorldSkills London 2011. IfL used this opportunity to pay tribute to the outstanding teachers and trainers whose dedication helps set thousands of young people each year on the path to a successful and rewarding career. In addition, we were pleased that at least six IfL members also volunteered as IfL Master Volunteers, helping to make WorldSkills happen.
